Ruth Ann Hardesty, lovingly known as “Gigi,” 86, of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, March 13, 2026. She lived a life devoted to caring for others, both through her work and through the deep love she had for her family and friends.
She was born January 9, 1940, in Caldwell, Ohio, to the late Samuel C. Swain and Mildred (Grimes) Swain. She retired from Coshocton County Children Services after 32 years. She then was employed at Randles Medical Supplies for 13 years. Ruth was known for being an extremely hard worker and took great pride in her home and in everything she did.
Ruth is survived by her loving daughter, Christine Howell; caring grandchildren, Amber (Bart) Barringer, Ashley (Josh) Coffman, and Arica (Zachary) Mills; six great-grandchildren, Brody and Brooks Barringer, Jace and Allie Coffman, and Chael and Gatlin Mills; several nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, Carol Ann Kimble.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Clark “Gordon” Hardesty, who passed away on August 28, 2025; her parents; and her brothers, Samuel B. Swain and Max A. Swain, along with a niece and several aunts and uncles.
Ruth’s greatest joys in life were the simple but meaningful moments she shared with those she loved. She cherished time spent with her family, especially watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Whether it was gathering together, sharing stories, or enjoying a day of shopping, those moments brought her the most happiness. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did, and the memories created together will be treasured by all who knew her.
In keeping with Gordon and Ruth’s wishes, family and friends are warmly invited to gather for calling hours on Friday, April 3, 2026, at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A memorial service will immediately follow as we come together to remember, honor, and celebrate the beautiful life and deep love they shared for more than 55 years. The service will be officiated by Pastors Rod Uhlig and her favorite neighbor, Mike Jansen, whom Ruth affectionately referred to as “Preach.”
Memorial contributions may be directed to Burt Avenue Wesleyan Church, 230 Burt Avenue, Coshocton, Ohio 43812, or to Coshocton Christian Tabernacle, 48245 Genesis Drive, Coshocton, Ohio 43812; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
