Robert S. McCormick, 73, of West Lafayette, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home after a short battle with illness, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.
Born on September 7, 1952, in West Lafayette, he was the son of the late Robert and Shirley (Couts) McCormick. Robert lived a life defined by dedication, loyalty, and a fierce love for his family.
He graduated in 1972 from Ridgewood High School, then went on to proudly serve 20 years in the Ohio Army National Guard and spent over 23 years working at Kraft Foods. While he took pride in both careers, Robert often said his favorite job of all was helping raise his grandchildren - a role he embraced wholeheartedly and took very seriously.
Robert was caring, fun-loving, and famously stubborn - bullheaded at times - but always unwaveringly devoted to those he cared about. He never missed a soccer game for his four step-grandchildren, cheering faithfully from the sidelines. One of his proudest memories was watching his grandson, Cash, help lead River View High School to a state championship in 2024 - a moment he treasured and spoke of often.
When he wasn't attending games, Robert enjoyed quieter moments with his wife, Johnna, watching Premier League soccer - always rooting for Liverpool while Johnna passionately supported Tottenham. Their friendly rivalry was a small but cherished part of their life together.
Robert had a love for travel and adventure, especially when it meant loading up the RV and heading out on the open road. He enjoyed traveling west and cherished trips to Georgia to visit his step-daughter and her family, always happiest when those journeys led him to time spent with loved ones.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Johnna McCormick, whom he married on August 20, 1998; his daughter, Tara McCormick (Klenn Glaze), and grandson, Kyren Glaze; his step-daughter, Amy (Steve) Tyner of St. Marys, Georgia (formerly Zanesville, Ohio); and his step-son, Eric (Mandy) Guilliams of Coshocton.
He was a proud Papaw and very close to his step-grandchildren: Reagan Tyner of St. Marys, Georgia (formerly Zanesville, Ohio); Landry Tyner (Owen Iden) of Mt. Perry, Ohio; Cadence Guilliams (Slater Sampsel); Cash Guilliams; and Sydney McKee, along with her son, step-great-grandson, Greyson of Coshocton, OH.
Robert is also survived by his sisters, Janet Harstine and Carol (Dean) Wears, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved dogs, Precious and Gibbs, who we like to imagine were waiting eagerly to greet him on the other side.
In keeping with Robert's wishes, there will be no services at this time, and he will be cremated. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to The Miller Funeral Home, and the nurses of Coshocton Hospice and Genesis Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Riverview High School Boys Soccer Team or to the Coshocton County Animal Shelter - two causes that reflect Robert's love for his family, soccer, and animals.
Robert will be remembered for his strong opinions, big heart, and the fierce devotion he showed to the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the memories they will carry forever.
