Phyllis Ann Pappas

October 15, 1935 — February 19, 2020

Phyllis Ann (Taylor) Pappas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the Oaks at Bethesda in Zanesville, Ohio. She was born on October 15th, 1935 to the late Wilford Taylor and Clara Wells in Middleport, Ohio. On June 1st, 1968 she married the love of her life Theodore Pappas of Columbus, Ohio. They settled their family in Coshocton; where together they raised their six sons: Bobby, Craig, Dan, David, Gary and Steve.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Theodore Pappas, siblings Maxine and Lanny Taylor, and her eldest son Steve Spaulding.

Phyllis is survived by her brother Wilford Taylor, sons Robert and Daniel Spaulding, Daughters-in-law Judy (Robert) and Linda (Steve) Spaulding; all of Coshocton. Grandchildren: Candace, Corey (Amy), Lanny, Seth, Anna and Katie.

Along with her husband, they owned and operated several companies, most notably Colonial Flag Company (later purchased by Annin) and Shaffer Tent and Awning. Shaffer would go on to produce temporary structures for the 1996 Olympic Games and most major golf tournaments in the United States from the PGA tour to the US Open. Today the company they built with their sons and later sold is one of the largest of its kind in the world and an industry leader. Phyllis and Ted had a passion for building things to last and employed many in the local community that they loved.

Phyllis approached her final months with dignity and strength. Her family will be forever grateful to the compassionate staff and nurses of the Oaks at Bethesda and Hospice of Central Ohio. Throughout her entire life she was selfless; her family came first and she anonymously helped those who were in need. She will be remembered most though for something she gave freely and often; unconditional love. We will hold on to and be sustained by the fond, endearing memories of a beautiful life gone too soon.

Graveside services will be held at South Lawn Cemetery, Coshocton on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11:00am with Pastor Mark Granger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you would consider a memorial contribution to one of her favorite charities: The Salvation Army or Hospice of Central Ohio.
