Even in his retirement years, Paul remained active, collecting and restoring Allis Chalmers tractors, hunting, delivering fish with Fender's Fish Hatchery, serving as a township trustee for 12 years, traveling, and participating in numerous community organizations and events.
Throughout his life, Paul maintained a strong bond to his roots and interests while growing up on a dairy farm. In his earlier years, he was actively involved in youth 4-H, an involvement that blossomed into a lifelong commitment to agriculture as he devoted time to supporting area tractor shows and tractor pull events at the Coshocton County Fair. He was a valued member of several organizations, including the Holmes County Antique Tractor Association, Coshocton County Antique Power Association, the Buckeye Allis Club, and the Keene Hill Grange. His dedication was further demonstrated by his status as a lifetime member of the NRA and the Kids America walk & talk club. Paul’s service and loyalty were recognized with 50-year membership awards from both the Masonic Lodge and the Ohio State Grange Golden Sheaf Award.
Paul’s faith journey was a significant part of his life. He was a member of the Keene United Methodist Church for many years and more recently attended the Coshocton Christian Tabernacle, where he found community and spiritual fulfillment.
Outside of his commitments and work, Paul cherished spending quality time with his family and enjoying the outdoors on their family farm.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Lorene L. (Chapman) Schonauer; his sons Mick (Julie) Schonauer of Columbus, Doug (Robin) Schonauer of Walhonding, and Brian (Kristi) Schonauer of Coshocton; and his grandchildren Derek (Tania) Schonauer, Evan (Chasidi) Schonauer, Brant (Sady) Schonauer, Bryan (Jayla) Schonauer, and Lauren (Nick) Johnson; who will carry forward his legacy of kindness, dedication, and love.
