Michael David Frye

Michael David Frye, age 70, of Coshocton passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Genesis Hospital from the tragic effects of bacterial meningitis. Michael was born on March 15, 1956 in Sharon, Connecticut to the late Irwin David and Betty Eleanor (Way) Frye. He was a 1974 graduate of Ridgewood High School in West Lafayette.

Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1974 to 1980. During his military service, he was stationed aboard the submarine USS Kamehameha where he earned numerous high-level security clearances during the Cold War era.

After completing his service, Michael returned to the place he loved most—the family farm close to his hometown of West Lafayette. There, he spent the next 46 years, dedicating his life to the land and the cattle operation that had been a cornerstone of the farm since 1958. He worked alongside his father, David, for 13 years before his father’s semi-retirement, and in turn, David then continued helping Michael on the farm for an additional 20 years. Their long partnership reflected the deep family values and strong work ethic that defined Michael’s life.

Beyond farming, Michael had many interests. He was exceptionally talented with his hands and could repair most anything. He possessed a remarkable gift for woodworking. He took great pride in creating a variety of handcrafted items, often adding his own unique and intricate touches to each piece, many of which became gifts for others.

Michael was also an animal lover (maybe not groundhogs) and throughout his entire life he always had plenty of cats and dogs that answered to him. He was very attentive to his cattle herds and ensured good health and nourishment.

Although he never married, his devotion to his family and a multitude of friends was steadfast and unwavering. Mike had that special ability to make everyone feel valued and important, whether they were the youngest member of the family or the oldest. His loyalty, generosity, and genuine care for others made him a cherished friend. He was especially attentive to young people as they were growing up and took the time to listen to them. To be counted among Michael’s friends was an honor.

Michael David Frye was a unique person in many ways who cherished life, others and especially the family farm. His presence in the lives of those who knew him will be deeply missed but the memories he created will be cherished and remain for years to come.

He is survived by his siblings, Sharon Ellis of West Lafayette, Paul (Myong) Frye of St. Paul’s North Carolina and Larry (Debby) Frye of West Lafayette; nieces and nephews, James (Rhonda) Ellis, Wendy (Brad) Fluharty, Gerald Frazier, Sue Gilbert, David Frye and Clint Frye as well as many great nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, James Ellis and nephew, Cory Ellis.

A special “thank you” goes to the all nurses and doctors on the CCU unit at Genesis for their professionalism and heartfelt care.

A cremation will take place with the Miller Funeral Home and Crematory and a private service will take place at a later date.
