John Hill, 83, passed away on June 19, 2025, at Genesis Hospital. He was born on July 1, 1941, in Halifax, Ohio, to the late Raymond and Beulah (Garber) Hill.
A proud veteran, John served in the United States Marines from 1958 to 1961, being stationed on the island of Okinawa as a heavy equipment operator. Throughout his life he remained a proud Marine Veteran. On July 6, 1968, he married Rita (Burris) Hill, who preceded him in death on July 6, 2020.
He started John Hill Trucking and expanded his business to include Coshocton Lease and Rental, Route 5 Auto, G & L Grocery, and Kate's Novelty. His drive and ambition for business was matched only by his love for life and the joy he found in connecting with others and maintaining strong friendships.
John cherished moments spent in his garage, where he welcomed visitors whether it was to talk or play a round of cards. Known for hosting an annual garage hog roast, he brought together family and friends to celebrate good food and great company. He spent his free time watching NASCAR and riding his motorcycles visiting all continental 48 states. His passion for antique cars led him to participate in antique shows, winning several trophies. In November of 2020, he suffered significant health challenges and spent the last couple of years at Windsorwood Place. He worked hard to adapt to a different lifestyle and still was able to make friends and continue to be his "ornery" self while showcasing his beloved dog, Heidi aka Baby.
He leaves behind a loving family that includes his daughters, Misty (David) Patterson and Holly Hill; his grandchildren, Joshua (Beth) Patterson, Jodi (Tray) Snyder, and Jared (Meghan) Patterson; and 11 great-grandchildren, who all adored him deeply. He is also survived by his siblings, Janice (Rich) Mills, Nancy Boss, and Judy (Mike) Verba, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Rita he is preceded in death by his son, Mitch Hill.
