John Clark

October 29, 1942 — January 5, 2026

Coshocton

John E. Clark, passed away at Altercare of Coshocton on Monday January 5, 2026. He was born on October 29, 1942, in Newcomerstown, Ohio, to the late William G. and Martha L. Clark.

John lived a life measured not just in years, but in seasons, games, and memories made along the way. If there was a scoreboard involved, Dad was paying attention-and usually had something to say about it.

Dad's love language was sports. Even as his dementia progressed, we were always amazed how remarkable his memory was for players, games, and sports news. He loved to shoot the breeze, and if the topic turned to sports, you could count on him lighting up. While he faithfully followed the buckeyes, Indians, and Browns, nothing compared to watching his grandchildren play. He may not have been the diaper-changing or baby-rocking type, but he never missed a game. He was their loudest supporter, proudest storyteller, and forever their number one fan. That passion came naturally. Dad spent years playing and coaching, dedicating countless hours to the softball fields. He could be a bit of a hot head on the field, but those who played for him, his two daughters included, will remember him most fondly as the enthusiastic "windmill" on the third-base line, arms spinning as runners rounded second and headed for home. From Kleen Sweep to Hathaway's and all the teams in between, he poured his time and energy into the game and the people who played it.

John is survived by his children; Kelly (Jerad) Bratton, Kendra (Jimmy) Bensch, William "Billy" (Chasity) Clark, and Michael Clark; his grandchildren: Paxton Bratton, Blaine Bensch, SPC Bree Clark, SGT Blaze Clark, Naddia Smith, and Natasha Clark; and his greatgrandchild, Asher Clark. He is also survived by his sister, Dixie J. Taylor, along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, John was preceded in death by his brothers Jack Clark, James Clark, Junior G. Clark, Clarence A. Clark, and Gary G. "Tex" Clark, and his sisters Anita L. Shaw and Margie C. English.

Dad's legacy lives on in every game watched from the stands, every proud story told about his kids and grandkids, and every memory made on a ball field. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever cheering from the best seat in the house.
