James Edwin George

James Edwin George, age 83, of West Lafayette, passed away on September 24, 2026. He was born on September 14, 1943, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, to the late Edwin and Dorothy (Price) George.

Jim earned a Bachelor's degree in Education with a focus in music from Malone University. He spent 34 years at Ridgewood Local School District as a music teacher, band director, and teacher/principal at Bakersville Elementary and Plainfield Elementary. Music was an important part of Jim's life. He was an excellent tuba player and played in the Main Street Brass and the Coshocton County Community Band.

Jim was a man of strong faith and always kept God at the center of his life. He attended the Coshocton Church of the Nazarene, as well as South Lake Wales Church of God during the winter months. Jim and his wife, Cindy, spent 25 years wintering in Sebring, Florida.

Jim was also a skilled craftsman who could build or fix just about anything. He built several structures on their property and completed numerous renovations over the years. He was a master woodworker who enjoyed making pens and other unique gifts for family and friends, special reminders of his thoughtfulness and the time he shared with those he loved.

Jim was a private pilot and flight instructor and flew for 40 years. He loved to travel and camp with his family.

One of Jim's most cherished memories was taking his grandchildren on extended trips where they could travel, explore, and spend time together. Those adventures became special memories that his family will carry with them for years to come.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Cynthia (Huntsberger) George; daughters, Heather (Wayne) Burnosky of Belpre, Ohio and Bethany (Patrick) Clark of Coshocton; grandchildren, Caleb (Danielle) Burnosky, Luke Burnosky, Kaitlyn, Hattie, Aden and Olivia Clark, as well as sister, Janice Bordine.

He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Allen Bordine.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Samaritan's Purse at PO Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607.

Calling hours will be at The Miller Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will begin at 1pm with Pastor Larry Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery.
