Arthur Dwaine Chaney Sr.

March 8, 1946 — June 13, 2026

Arthur Dwaine Chaney, 80, took the hands of Jesus Christ and entered his Father's heavenly kingdom on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Washington County Home in Marietta, Ohio. He was a deeply loved and treasured husband, dad of two, grandpa to nine grandchildren, and great-grandpa to nine great-grandchildren.

He was born March 8, 1946, in Coshocton to the late William Thomas and Lillian Louise (Brown) Chaney. He married the love of his life, Victoria (Wolford) Chaney, on Friday, June 13, 1965, who survives. Art and Vicky often joked that they wanted to prove Friday the 13th was a lucky day, and their 61 years of love and devotion together proved just that.

Art served honorably in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He proudly attained the rank of Major and served as Company Commander of the National Guard on Otsego Avenue in Coshocton, Ohio. He was very proud of his military career and worked hard building it. During his service in the National Guard, he received several awards and commendations. He received The United States of America Meritorious Service Medal in 1995.

He retired from the former G.E. of Coshocton after many years of dedicated service. Following retirement, he continued serving others by helping build wheelchair ramps for the Coshocton County Handicapped Society, improving the quality of life for many individuals throughout his community.

Art's family meant the world to him. When his children were growing up, he enjoyed going fishing with them, taking family trips, flying kites, and riding bikes. He was a devoted Grandpa and would frequently take his grandkids on walks to Collins Meat Market in Coshocton for little candies, bounce them on his knee when they were babies, and take them to Vacation Bible School, where he was in charge of snack time and prayer. He had a lot of wisdom that he shared with his children and grandchildren.

Art enjoyed spending time with and taking trips with Vicky to Put-in-Bay, Ohio, and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where he loved visiting the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Feud, the Titanic Museum, and Parrot Mountain. He could always be found cheering on the Cleveland Browns during football season. He enjoyed sports throughout his life. In his younger years, he even served as a basketball coach.

Art's deep relationship with God served as the foundation by which he lived his life. He was a member of the Conesville United Methodist Church for many years and really valued his church family there. He also loved attending services at Gospel Hill Ministry. One of his favorite pastimes was listening to gospel music and giving praise to Jesus Christ.

Art was one of the good guys. He always tried to look on the bright side of everything, and he was almost always smiling. He had a kind heart and tried to help those that were less fortunate.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Rebecca (Oscar) Alejo of Upland, California; a son, Arthur Chaney and his fiancée Danielle Murphy of Palm Coast, Florida; grandchildren, Andrew Corder, Ben (Rayne) Corder, Bethany (Andrew) Vorakrajangthiti, Rachelle Corder and partner Eduardo Martin, Rebecca Louise Corder, Annie Corder (Dodge) and partner Carlos Maya, J.R. Corder, Blake Corder, and Alexanndria Corder; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Malia, Spencer, Christian, Ezequiel, Amaya, and Akira Corder, Oakley Dodge, and Caelan Vorakrajangthiti; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Ed, Joe, Bob, Harold, Richard, Tom, Jim, and Frank Chaney; two sisters, Mary and Helen Smith; and one granddaughter, Rebekah Noelle Corder.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2026, at Franklin Township Cemetery in Coshocton, Ohio, with Pastor Wayne Hogue officiating. The Coshocton County Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard Burial will be performing military rites.
