As a fellow paratrooper who trained at Ft. Benning Ga, I am sure Pvt Appleby on that fateful date in 1944 was thinking of the song we all learned in Airborne School; “Blood on the Risers”.
We as a Band of Brothers had that song imbedded in our minds. I remember every word and every note to this day.
As the final chorus of the song goes: “ Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die. He ain’t gonna jump no more!”
Welcome Home Pvt. Appleby
