James Norman Obituary

James D. Norman 94, of Coshocton, son of late Dewey and Olive Norman passed away on May 13, 2019. Jim was born in West Lafayette and graduated from Coshocton High School in 1942.

Jim completed his freshman year at Miami University before entering the US Army Air Force cadet training program. He graduated from the program in February 1945 as a pilot of multiengine aircraft. He completed his first pilot training in the B-17 at the Lockbourne Air Force Station in Columbus Ohio and went on to Maxwell Field for training as a co-pilot on B-29s.

After his discharge he re-entered Miami University and graduated in 1948 with a BBS. After Miami, Jim worked at ITW (Illinois Tool Works) in Chicago and became a Group Vice President before leaving to become CEO of a medical products company in San Diego, Ca. He left there to become President of Indiana General’s EMM division in Valparaiso, IN. He retired in1982 and moved back to rural Coshocton County.

His civic activities included board duties for the United Way, the Chamber of Commerce, Boy Scouts, and Planned Parenthood. He is most proud of his stint as Board Chairman of Chicago’s North Suburban YMCA in Mount Prospect. Jim married his college sweetheart, Nancy Louise Smith of Evanston, IL on July 16, 1949.

Nancy passed away in 2005 after 56 years of happy marriage. They had four children: Carolyn, Scott, Matthew, and Christopher.

They have been blessed with eight grandchildren - Corie, Shannon, Tony, Marady, Jeffery, Taylor, Mallary, and Danielle.

They now have eleven Great-Grandchildren: Nick, Chase, Olivia, Liam, Max, Isaiah, Ava,Thomas, Evan, Emeric, and Oliver.

Services will be held at the Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton, Ohio 43812 on Saturday May 18, 2019 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm with funeral services beginning at 3:00p. Burial of his cremated remains with be follow at South Lawn Cemetery for the family.
